Suhaila Salimpour's - Dances for the Sultan
Suhaila Salimpour's first production, Dances for the Sultan, is still considered one of the most beautiful and exquisitely produced belly dances available today. In these solos, Suhaila introduces you to the beginning of what has now become the world-famous Suhaila Salimpour Format. Using her many years of belly dance experience and innovative choreography, Suhaila demonstrates the vibration, isolations and layering that are the core of her Format. The first dance, Benat Escanderia (The Dance of the Childeren of Egypt), blends ancient and modern music and choreography. The performance combines the timeless tribal style of Jamila Salimpour with Suhaila Salimpour's exciting modern technique, fusing traditional steps and hip work with contemporary bodyline and form. The second performance is a classic entitled Karnak. This choreography has become a signature for Suhaila, as have the costumes designed by Jamila Salimpour. The vision for Karnak is one of moving statues that evolove using increasingly deepening movements, accented with finger cymbals. The dance was co-choereographed by Jamila and Suhaila Salimpour as a tribute to Ancient Egypt.
